On November 29, 1910, the first US patent for inventing the traffic lights system was issued to Ernest Sirrine.

On December 5, 1933, the United State officially repealed the 18th Amendment to the Constitution that had outlawed liquor sales. Until that time, you might have seen scenes like the one below, courtesy of the University of Washington Libraries.
